How I Spent My Anniversary Vacation

Posted by uncharch7 on July 27, 2009

A couple weeks ago C surprised me by telling me we were going to Savannah for a long weekend sometime around our anniversary, but he couldn’t just plan it due to my work schedule.  I cleared my schedule for a weekend and off we went, dog in tow, to Savannah.

When we checked in to the La Quinta hotel, we eagerly got our keys and wanted to unpack the car so we could enjoy some time poolside before heading downtown for dinner.  We entered the room and it was hot as hell.  C proceeded to attempt to turn on the air conditioner and all it would do was click. Maintenance was called and we waited…and waited.  The guy finally showed up and announced he would have to switch out the unit.  We had to wait on him since we had Jackson with us, so we started unpacking the rest of our stuff.

The maintenance guy wasn’t able to get the unit out so we had to repack the car, switch rooms, and move on.  We unpacked and I turned on my computer to get online to check the weather.  Free Internet?  Yes, it may be free, but that doesn’t mean it works!  Frustrated and now almost two hours after we checked in, we headed to the pool.  BAM!  Of course, just our luck!  Thunder.  We head back in to crack open a cold one and get ready for dinner.

We headed downtown and ate at the Moon River Brewery like we did last October when C took me to Savannah for my birthday.  After some amazing food we walked around River Street and C wanted a t-shirt.  We walked into a random store and he saw one he really liked.  An employee approached us after C had pulled out one in his size and the employee told him that there’s no need to pull shirts out when they’re displayed up above.  He tried to explain to the man that he was going to buy the shirt, but the man didn’t get it.  Screw this, we’re off to find another shirt at a place with nicer employees!  We walked down the street and found some great shirts.  Mission accomplished.

Saturday we woke up early to get a good spot in line at Paula Deen’s restaurant.  We got in line at 7:45 and they started taking reservations at 9:15.  We walked around a bit and ate some delicious Southern food, stuffing ourselves to the point of barely being able to move.  We returned to our hotel, grabbed the dog, and headed to the dog park.  Jackson had a blast and we returned with one exhausted dog, leaving us to head back downtown for a few beers and some dinner.  The weather was perfect!

We wanted to sleep in a bit Sunday morning but Jackson’s belly had some other plans.  We were awakened by violent vomiting at 6am.  Fantastic.  We left to get breakfast after that was all cleaned up and came back to find some explosive mud butt.  Double fantastic.  We took him to the dog park anyways since this isn’t uncommon for him if he’s in a new area and gets stressed.  Well… while at the dog park, he vomited again.  This time up came the culprit of the upset belly: a rock.  A ROCK.  Not a small one either; think a rectangle the size of half of your pinky.  Well shit, off we go since he’s now vomiting bile, time for a vet.  We have no idea when he could’ve swallowed that since he was on his leash a majority of the time in Savannah.  The only thing we can think of is that he was playing at the dog park and digging a bit, we couldn’t see everything he put in his mouth.  Vet one… no phone number and it’s closed.  Vet two… a phone number but no answering machine.  Thankfully while we were on the way to vet three he stopped foaming and calmed down.

We decided to still go to the beach where we had a fabulous time.  We spent the day at one of the public beaches on Tybee Island, swimming in the ocean and enjoying the sun.  I got a tad sunburned on my butt and the backs of my legs, now nicknamed “Big Red” from my loving husband.  Lovely, eh?

Now we’re home, unfortunately.  We ended up with two free nights at the hotel, escaped an emergency vet visit, drank our weights in beer, had a grand time, and now back to work.

P90X Lean Day 45: Chest, Shoulders and Triceps and Ab Ripper X

Posted by uncharch7 on July 17, 2009

WOW, I’m half way done! That’s both scary and exciting.

I really had to drag myself out of bed this morning to get this workout in. C left for PA today to go visit a friend and kissed me goodbye at 4:30am; the alarm went off at 5am and I pressed snooze. It went off again… snooze. And again… snooze. Oops.

I decided that I’d get as far as I could before having to take Jackson out for some exercise before I had to leave to teach class. The one good thing about this workout is that you can fast forward through some of it since they provide ample time to do the push-ups. When you’re like me and can’t do 20+ push-ups, that adds up to a good bit of time.

I had originally fast forwarded through the one-handed push-ups today and then made myself go back when I noticed that the lady in the video had her hand out by her head to do these. I got down on my knees and went down pretty far with this method. Imagine that! I also did some of the plyo push-ups today getting a little bit of air, being very aware of how I’m landing so I don’t hurt myself.

Not bad for not having a ton of motivation this morning… tonight I MUST do ARX. MUST.

P90X Lean Day 44: Cardio X

Posted by uncharch7 on July 16, 2009

I had every intention of running today after I did this workout until I realized that it was going to take me an hour to get to where I was teaching. Scratch the run… enjoy rush hour traffic instead (insert eye roll here). It took me a bit to get into the workout and by the time it was done, I was wide awake and ready to go. Of course this had to happen on the day that I can’t go run!

This workout is so nice and short once you skip the yoga crap, it’s over so fast but yet I still feel like it’s a good workout. Not great, but good. Next week I’ll be back to my normal schedule so I can swim again… I must make myself get in the water!

P90X Lean Day 43: Core Synergistics and Weigh-In Wednesday

Posted by uncharch7 on July 15, 2009

Week 7 already!

Today’s weight was 148.2, which is an obvious improvement over last week. A couple times this past week I got down to 147.6 (yes, I’m one of those people who weighs themselves every day), but I’m not to a point where that’s an every day occurrence. Maybe by next week it will be!

I had a really hard time getting out of bed this morning but I did manage to get a good workout in. I have noticed lately that this video doesn’t work my core as much as it did in the beginning. I don’t know if it’s because I’m more accustomed to it now or if it’s because I’m getting lazy in the movements. I don’t think it’s because of laziness, but it’s something to really focus on for next week.

P90X Lean Day 42: Rest

Posted by uncharch7 on July 14, 2009

Ahhhh rest. Much needed rest. I’m really concentrating on the proteins and have roasted some edamame due to its high protein content. Not bad, but I did have to put it back in the oven since it took over three times as long as the recipe said it should for it to get crunchy. I’m not a huge bean lover so this could take awhile to get used to.

P90X Lean Day 41: Kenpo X

Posted by uncharch7 on July 13, 2009

Today was a much better day working out. I finished the Legs/Back video from yesterday, did ARX that I totally forgot about, and ran. I guess this is making up for my lack of ambition lately!

It never ceases to amaze me how far I’ve gotten. I’m a little nervous for how the Day 60 pictures are going to turn out (yes, already!) since I’m struggling with the weight so much. Time to concentrate on diet…

P90X Lean Day 40: Legs and Back, Ab Ripper X

Posted by uncharch7 on July 12, 2009

I seem to be noticing a pattern here… running out of time and doing slightly half-assed workouts instead of “Bringing It”. I am hoping that my motivation and dedication will return. I’m still getting out of bed and doing the workouts, which has to count for something, right? I definitely enjoy the results… I need to keep at it though to keep them up.

I got out of bed and started this workout half asleep. We went to the Whitewater Center today and I had to get this workout done and go grocery shopping before we went, so I did about 85% of the workout and plan to finish the rest tomorrow. Not ideal, but I’ll get it all in.

USNWC was SO much fun. I feel better about not doing the entire video this morning since it was a great upper (and lower!) body workout rowing that kayak and raft! We went on a good hike too… hopefully we’ll get back there sometime soon!

P90X Lean Day 39: Yoga X

Posted by uncharch7 on July 11, 2009

I know you know this already, but screw yoga. I run instead.

So today was that 4-miler. I woke up feeling pretty good about it and decided just to run it, not worrying about time and pace. We got there and it was humid as hell, rained for a couple minutes and then we were off. Mile 1 was 10:30, mile 2 was 11:00, mile 3 was 12:00 and mile 4 was 11:00 (give or take a couple seconds on all of them, I don’t know where my watch is at this point). Now, mile 3 sticks out like a sore thumb, right? That’s because I walked for 2 minutes. Not consecutively, but I did walk. I was just tired. I knew that it would be better to suck it up and walk instead of trying to push myself too hard and die at the end. So I did.

It was worth it. My final time was 44:40, 11:10 mile. S-L-O-W, but I finished.

I need to start saying that I’ll run for beer. This was yet another race that had beer at the end. It’s 5:00 somewhere, right?

P90X Lean Day 38: Chest, Shoulders and Triceps and Ab Ripper X

Posted by uncharch7 on July 10, 2009

Here it is again. I have to say this is by far my least favorite workout of this program. I dread it.

I did more pushups today but I did skip the one-handed version and the airborne. It’s just not worth it to me to possibly cause injury, especially with the airborne variety. I just can’t risk falling funny and busting my wrist. The one-handed pushups are a bit of a puzzle; I can’t seem to do them without rounding my back, which I’m going to assume is a bad thing.

I did feel a little bit more confident in this workout today and I didn’t feel like I wanted to yell at the screen too much… I’m hoping this means I’m not nearly as sore tomorrow.

As a side note, C sent me a message a couple days ago asking if I was interested in running a 4-mile race tomorrow. Um, yeah… not prepared but I’ll do it anyways!

P90X Lean Day 37: Cardio X

Posted by uncharch7 on July 9, 2009

Today has been busy to say the least and I didn’t get to do my workout when I wanted to, which led to a decrease in motivation. Getting down to the basement to do it was the hardest part. Once I was down there and put the DVD in, I was fine, but boy was it hard getting there.

I skipped out on the swim today. I haven’t been sleeping well and my mind is still a bit distracted from some other things going on in my life, instead of swimming I relaxed for a few minutes. I had a break at work which would have been great to swim in, but I chose the relaxation.

I must say, it was worth it. I just haven’t had the time lately to clear my mind and just… stop. Tomorrow’s another day, today I didn’t swim but I do feel like I got a good (albeit short) workout in with the Cardio X.
